Level 1 Recap
Half day course recap of level 1 | £150 1 - 4pm
I realised that many people who took another teacher's level 1 course would like to join my Level 2 course.
Unfortunately, each teacher has a different lineage, and the content of Level 1 varies significantly.
Since Level 2 builds on the foundation of Level 1,
I need to cover some important material for students who wish to enrol in Level 2 with me.
Therefore, I created a new Level 1 recap course specifically for those who have already completed Level 1.

Reiki was founded by Mr. Mikao Usui (臼井甕男) in 1922 in Japan. After working in a variety of jobs such as a journalist and as a secretary for the politician Shinpei Goto (後藤新平), and owning his own trade company, Mr. Usui retired and began training his mind at a Zen temple in search of understanding the world (in Buddhism, this is referred to as enlightenment 悟りを開く) and discovering the purpose of life (安心立命_Anjinryumei). "安心" translates to 'no worry', while "立命" means holding your mind fulfilling that which is given from the universe. One should maintain calmness of mind, unaffected by surrounding influences, and embrace a heavenly feeling at all times, controlling one's mind without confusion amidst the influx of meaningless information or fear of death.
However, it wasn’t easy to find what he hoped for. Then he sought the consulting with the great Zen teacher. He was told, "Try to face your own death," and so he decided to fast on Kurama Mountain. Twenty days passed, and suddenly he felt a sensation like lightning striking his head and penetrating his body's centre, causing him to faint. Upon awakening, he felt refreshed and calm, experiencing a sense of satisfaction. He then decided to descend the mountain, marking the 21st day since he began fasting. On his way down, he tripped and injured his toes, causing a nail to come off and bleeding to occur. He applied his hands to the injury, and miraculously, the bleeding stopped within minutes, and the pain disappeared.
At the base of Mt. Kurama, there was a diner where he had his first meal after fasting for 20 days. When he looked at the waiter, who had a horrible toothache and a swollen cheek, Mr. Usui applied his hands, relieving the pain completely and reducing the swelling. It was then that he realised his ability of the hands, which he called "Reiki."
Usui established own Reiki clinic in Harajuku Tokyo in April 1922. On September 12th, 1923, a great earthquake struck the Kanto area, including Tokyo, causing a widespread conflagration. Everywhere, there were cries of pain from the wounded. Mr. Usui felt pity for them, and every morning he went out to roam the town, treating these casualties free of charge. He cured and saved innumerable people.
He trained 21 teachers capable of giving attunement in 4 years. One of these teachers was Mr. Tyujiro Hayasi (林忠次郎), a Navy doctor. Hayashi taught Hawayo Takata (高田ハワヨ), who lived in Hawaii, USA, as a second-generation Japanese American. From there, Reiki spread to the entire world.
Research
Striving for Deeper Understanding of Medical Conditions and Uncovering the Truth Behind Japanese Original Reiki in History Research (Case Studies)
Beside of the thing that some scientists have conducted research on Reiki, I have added some my case study on this page. I had some case studies on blood pressure and sleeping time. Although, the sample size was not sufficient for statistical analysis, it would be as a guide for treatment.
In relation to blood pressure, I measured blood pressure before and after a Reiki session for an hour. Although this study does not yield proper statistical significance, the results were promising. High blood pressure, above 160-170 (systolic), dropped dramatically to the 140s after a one-hour session. This may be attributed to Reiki's promotion of good blood flow and circulation. For those with normal systolic levels, their blood pressure initially increased by 4-5 points but returned to normal within 10-15 minutes.
Low blood pressure value increased, with diastolic readings of 70-97 rising to systolic readings of 97-110, and gradually returning to own within 30 minutes. While high blood pressure is often caused by cholesterol, calcium, or other substances adhering to the inner walls of blood vessels, creating increased pressure, it appears that Reiki promotes smooth blood flow through these congested areas. Further research with larger sample sizes is needed, but Reiki may be effective in promoting healthy blood flow for both high and low blood pressure cases.
Regarding sleep quality, most participants reported that they slept well on the day they had a Reiki session. Some continued to experience better sleep, while others returned to their usual sleep patterns within a couple of days or a week. A few participants completely overcame insomnia after a few sessions.
Interestingly, 95% of clients fall asleep during the session, typically about in 15 minutes after the reiki session starts. After that, some enter a deep sleep, while others experience a wavy sleep pattern, alternating between deep and shallow sleep. In terms of pulse rate, all participants in the study experienced a slower pulse rate after the session, and the pulse wave displayed a slightly flattened pattern. (I utilized an Apple Watch to record the pulse wave.) If you are interested in one of the scientific evidence, Please click here.
Publish
I have written a book about the translation of stone memorials of Usui, along with the historical background of Japan. The book portrays Mr. Usui as an ordinary person, rather than a deity, and is scheduled for publication in near future.
Additionally, I am working on a piece about the 'Tomita-style hand healing.' This is the only surviving book that traces Usui's legacy since his passing, dating back to 1933. It reflects the early stages of Usui Reiki Healing and how it spread across Japan. Tomita spent eight years conducting research then publishing a book documenting how to use Reiki to treat people. His work introduced an easy way to harness hand energy and help families in hardship. I also include information about Toshihiro Eguchi, who graduated from Usui’s Shinpiden (master course) and dedicated his life to teaching Reiki.
During Japan’s recession in the mid-1920s to 1930s, Reiki became a tool for people who couldn't afford medical treatment. Though he had not left a book, some writing for introducing Reiki from magazines are left. Both Eguchi and Tomita developed their own methods for treating diseases.
